Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Charting Different Orders of Magnitude in Excel: A Brilliant Solution | MrExcel Netcast.

Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast where we discuss all things Excel. I'm Bill Jelen and in today's episode, we're going to tackle the issue of analyzing data with different orders of magnitude. This is a common problem that many Excel users face and I'm excited to share a solution with you that was suggested by one of our viewers.

In a previous podcast, I demonstrated how to use a pivot table to analyze data with different orders of magnitude. However, one of our viewers, Bill, reached out with a brilliant solution that I had never seen before. He suggested creating a chart with four series, which allows us to see both the larger and smaller values clearly. This solution is definitely worthy of an Excel master pin and I'm excited to share it with you today.

To demonstrate this solution, we'll be using a chart with air and water data. As you can see, when we try to plot both series on the same chart, the water values are visible but the air values are not. This is where Bill's trick comes in. By moving the water series to the secondary axis and also formatting the second invisible series to the secondary axis, we are able to see both series clearly on the chart. Bill also added some visual elements to the chart, such as arrows and a water background, to make it more visually appealing.

I want to thank Bill for sharing this solution with us and I hope it helps you in your data analysis. Don't forget to subscribe to our channel for more Excel tips and tricks. Thanks for watching and we'll see you next time for another netcast from MrExcel.

You need to chart two different orders of magnitude in a chart. I always end up creating a 2-axis combo chart, with a column series and a line series. Today in Episode 979, Bill writes in with a cool way to solve this problem with both series shown as columns.
