Pyroclastic Flow! (Santiaguito Volcano, Guatemala Sep 17, 2024)
Rare large eruption from the Caliente Vent of the Santiaguito volcanic vent chain triggers pyroclastic flows. Usually flows are directed down the left (west) side of the cone but this morning's eruption decends to the front (south) and right (east) side. The south pyroclastic flow leaves a permanent orange trail, pointing to the significance and rarity of the event. Santiaguito vent chain is part of the Santa Maria Volcano in Guatemala.
