The Fauci inquiry: How Europe does things differently

CORRECTIONS:
The one thing of interest that did come out of this is an e-mail exchange between the authors of the 2020 Proximal Origins paper. A later study suggested one possible pathway to engineering, which Andersen accepted.
My thanks to a subscriber with whom I had an interesting discussion on this subject. It made me wonder why Andersen and his co-authors did not go public with the information.
So I looked a bit further. Andersen was being hounded after the e-mails were published, but he did answer written questions from the New York Times, and they shed a lot of light regarding the context and meaning of the e-mails.
In short, he admitted that researchers had worked round the clokc on the Proximal Origins paper in the early stages of the virus, with the best information they had. By the same token, he said they also lacked information during the e-mail exchange three months later. So both were imperfect.
Since then, a lot more data about the viris has become available, a lot more time has been spent on it, and the evidence for a natural origin is a lot clearer. ""For example," Andersen told the NYT, "we looked at data from coronaviruses found in other species, such as bats and pangolins, which demonstrated that the features that first appeared unique to SARS-CoV-2 were in fact found in other, related viruses.."
So what about the evidence 'clearly showing' a natural origin? Andersen has now amended that to 'extremely unlikely.' Most published studies share that view.
