Full first block of the 3pm newscast on Gray's NBC affiliate in Nashville, Tennessee, recorded Wednesday, August 14, 2024.
The station added the hour-long news at 3pm in September 2022 as they dropped the revolving door of syndicated programs in this time slot in favor of additional local news. The current news director came from sister station WAVE not long after Gray took over operations in 2021, and the strategy of programming nearly all-local programming outside of the network (which WAVE has become known for) was implemented shortly thereafter. WSMV is now either news or lifestyle content from 4am to 7pm weekdays.
The 3pm news, at least judging on this block, appears to be meant to primarily tease stories for the later newscasts, as most of these reporters gave quick packages and teased to the 5 and 6pm newscasts for additional context. There was some national content and interviews later in the show, as well as extended weather forecasts.
After years of changes under the previous ownership, becoming a revolving door and sinking to third, Gray took over and has stabilized the station. The product is very good for what it is and has a strong group of anchors, reporters, and producers.
Graphics remain Meredith's standardized graphics package (which first launched here in 2020 before becoming groupwide with a Meredith hub based at WSMV; this was disbanded not long after Gray took over and returned creative decisions to the individual stations, and WSMV's team only oversees WSMV once again). Voiceover is an unknown female talent, and music is "True News" by 11/One Music.
