My Thoughts On The Song/Chart: Track number 8 of "Dig Out Your Soul" and by far the weakest song on the album play wise due to how it's literally just a bunch of extended sustains that end up being boring (and almost painful) to play for 4 and a half minutes.
Musically, the song is okay, being an example of Oasis's psychedelic sound that is mostly associated with the album and some of later Oasis's output.
The song is notable for having a particular glitch associated with it and it's extended sustains:
"In every Guitar Hero game from World Tour onward, notes can be placed on top of sustains. These are known as extended sustains. If there is a sustain note on top of another sustain note, there is a glitch that occurs when you let go of the bottom sustain before hitting the top sustain that gives you more points than if you just played both sustains normally. The amount of extra points you get is based on the distance between the first and second sustain- the greater the distance, the more extra points you'll get. The game is basically giving you credit for that length of sustain twice. This glitch gets even more crazy when there are multiple sustains on top of one sustain because you get the extra points at the end of every sustain. If there are 3 sustains on top of one sustain, like in this song, it's kind of like you're getting credit for hitting that bottom G sustain 3 times instead of just once.
This is the most extreme case of extended sustain abuse in the entire series, for sure. Every single note in the song is part of an extended sustain. If you didn't perform the glitch at all, you'd end up with a score around 123K. I got over double that score in this video with 268K." -GuitarHeroROXS on his WOR footage of the song.
Song Facts:
This song with a promise to lead the listener out into the big wide world was written by guitarist Gem Archer. He told Q magazine October 2008: "It was just a groove, a bassline and Noel was like 'that's the one, write some words for it'. It's a stream of consciousness. And there's no guitars on it which is another thing I like as well."
This was played live for the first time on August 26, 2008 at the WaMu Theater in Seattle.
The song was given negative reception from Rolling Stones' review of "Dig Out Your Soul" with Jody Rosen saying the song was a "vaguely Indian raga-flavoured psychedelic anthem"
