Slip Power Recovery | Full Concept Explained Industrial Drives and Control |
Slip power recovery is a technique used in the control of electric motors, particularly in induction motors. It involves recovering energy from the rotor circuit of the induction motor, which would otherwise be wasted in the form of heat. This energy can be fed back into the electrical supply system or used for other applications, resulting in energy savings and improved efficiency.

In slip power recovery, a power electronic converter is used to control the power flow between the motor and the electrical supply system. By adjusting the frequency and voltage of the electrical supply, the converter can control the slip of the motor, which is the difference between the synchronous speed of the rotating magnetic field and the actual speed of the rotor. This allows energy to be transferred between the rotor and the stator circuits of the motor.

The recovered energy can be used for various purposes, such as to power other electrical loads, to improve the power factor of the electrical supply system, or to provide dynamic braking for the motor. Slip power recovery is particularly useful in applications where the motor operates at variable speeds, such as in elevators, cranes, and wind turbines.
