Building a Recipe App in Android Studio: Loading and Filtering Recipes by Category
Welcome back to another video in our Android Development Tutorial series! In this tutorial, we will focus on loading and filtering recipes based on categories in our Recipe App. Join us as we explore the code and functionality of the AllRecipesActivity.
Here's what we'll cover in this video:
Loading Recipes: We'll start by loading all recipes from the Firebase Realtime Database. We'll retrieve the recipes and display them in a RecyclerView using a RecipeAdapter. We'll ensure that the RecyclerView is properly set up and that the recipes are shuffled for a dynamic viewing experience.
Filtering by Category: We'll implement a filtering mechanism that allows users to view recipes based on specific categories. We'll retrieve the category information from the intent and filter the recipes accordingly. We'll update the RecyclerView with the filtered recipes using the RecipeAdapter.
Searching Recipes: Next, we'll add a search feature that enables users to search for recipes by name. We'll retrieve the search query from the intent and perform a case-insensitive search on the recipe names. We'll update the RecyclerView with the search results using the RecipeAdapter.
User Experience Improvements: We'll address a few issues, including fixing the Home and Edit Recipe activities. Additionally, we'll explore the default keyboard behavior when opening the app and provide a solution to improve the user experience.
