Stand Here Alone is a pop-punk band from Bandung, formed in 2010 on Indonesia's Independence Day. The band's formation aimed to contribute to the local celebration of the 17th of August in their bassist Mbenk's neighborhood in Pajajaran, Bandung.
The name "Stand Here Alone" reflects the feeling of being isolated or marginalized, viewed negatively by society. Their music often features lyrics that are easy to understand and relate to, covering themes such as love, friendship, and rebellion.
The band was initially formed by Mbenk (bass and vocals) and Chio (drums). Later, Ocan joined as a guitarist and vocalist, recommended by his older brother, who was also a friend of Mbenk and Chio, and eventually became their manager. In the beginning, as a new band, Stand Here Alone struggled to perform, moving from one stage to another to gain experience.
The band's popularity, often shortened to SHA, grew quickly due to their consistency and dedication to punk music. After 2.5 years of hard work, they released their debut album, Melodichildish, in 2014.
SHA's promotional approach was unique and extreme— they distributed free copies of their album to fans. This strategy helped them gain attention and secure more performance opportunities. For SHA, their first album represented the band's identity, much like a newborn baby receiving its name. To celebrate this milestone, they distributed free copies of their album as a form of gratitude to their supporters.
