Bill Hulstrunk built his own home up in the Green Mountains of Vermont. This is a super insulated structure with a wood stove for heat. It was also made out of pallets! Amazing. This is a fantastic example of the cool things people come up with.
Bill is very self-suffictient with water catchment, gardens, and wood for heat. Even some solar for lights.
This is the first in a multi-part. This video is an overview of the home and property. Stay tuned for more videos where we go deeper into the technical aspects of his home.
Average Annual Energy cost:
Electric: 2,555 Kwh, $490
Propane: 185 gallons, $635
Wood: 1 cord, nearly Free (some chainsaw use)
Before you compare this use to your own, consider hat Bill lives in the mountains of Vermont at over 8,000 Heating degree days. That is about 30% colder than where I live in Massachusetts.
