Vim Editor Basics: Moving Around the Screen
In the vim editor, how do you get to the beginning of the line?
You can type the caret symbol which is above the number 6 on your keyboard.
And to get to the end of the line, you can type the dollar sign.
One way to remember this is the caret sounds kinda like the word carrot.
So imagine a carrot at the start of the line and you can remember the dollar sign by imagining maybe a dollar bill at the end of the line.
Well, here's a bonus, you can type 0 to get to the VERY beginning of the line, in fact, to column 1.
On the other hand, the caret doesn't necessarily go to column 1...
it'll just go to the first non-blank character in the line.
So you can see that more clearly, if you look at this line up here.
The caret will go to the beginning of the first non-blank character in the line...
while pressing the 0 key will take you all the way to column 1 in the line.
