Comparison of the Kia E-Niro and Hyundai Kona Electric
A comparison of the Kia E-Niro and Hyundai Kona Electriс based on a real-world 425-km trip from Odessa to Vinnytsia. The trip was February 9-10, 2022. Air temperature ranged from +2 to +10°C. Climate control was set to 19°C. Highway speed was 100 km/h, with cruise control. The Hyundai Kona Electriс averaged 18.5 kW/100 km, while the Kia E-Niro consumed 18.1 kW/100 km. Given the same charge, the Kia E-Niro would have traveled 65 km further, but it should be noted that it is equipped with tires with low rolling resistance and noise levels. The 425-km drive from Odessa to Vinnytsia takes 6-6.5 hours. It's best to charge the car outside populated areas or in surrounding towns during long trips to avoid wasting time in city traffic. Optimally (but not necessarily), charging should be scheduled for 20-30% battery life to maximize charging power, and select proven charging stations with the highest charging capacity. It's also a good idea to warm up the interior during the last 10 minutes of charging and consider the estimated range with the climate control on.
