Primarily, schoolchildren who want to pass a math exam or test with flying colors. Anyone who simply loves math. Why do we need math?
1. Mathematics develops thinking.
By studying mathematics and solving problems, we learn to generalize and highlight important information, analyze and systematize, find patterns and establish cause-and-effect relationships, reason and draw conclusions, and think logically, strategically, and abstractly.
Just as regular exercise trains the body, making it healthy, strong, and resilient, regular math classes train the brain—developing intelligence and cognitive abilities and broadening horizons.
2. Math exercises memory.
Scientists from Stanford University in the United States studied how people solve mathematical problems and found that adults use reasoning and the automatic skill of "retrieving" existing answers from memory.
3. Math builds character.
Correctly solving mathematical and logical problems requires attentiveness, persistence, responsibility, precision, and accuracy. The more regularly these "character muscles" are trained, the stronger they become, helping children solve not only academic problems but also life problems.
4. Music for math, math for music
A comprehensive study conducted by Barbara H. Helmrich of the College of Notre Dame in Baltimore found that children who played musical instruments in middle school performed significantly better in mathematics in high school.
5. Mathematics helps you succeed in the humanities.
Mathematics is an interdisciplinary science, closely linked to physics, geography, geology, and chemistry. Sociology and economics are inseparable from mathematics, and many conclusions even in traditional humanities fields such as linguistics and journalism rely on mathematical models and concepts, as well as mathematical and logical laws.
6. Mathematics develops problem-solving skills.
The more complex mathematical problems become, the more skills are required to solve them. Thanks to mathematics, we break free from bad habits:
don't make assumptions, but use only precise terms;
don't simply memorize information and rules, but evaluate them;
we analyze and reflect to understand and assimilate new material and new life lessons.
7. Mathematics is the foundation of a successful career.
While learning foreign languages was considered promising 10-15 years ago, fluency in several languages is now commonplace. Professional success now depends largely on an understanding of technology, the ability to think, abstract, and solve non-standard problems. It's extremely difficult for those who want to work in IT to get by without a knowledge of mathematics.
8. Problem solving develops psychological resilience.
Solving mathematical problems helps improve emotional well-being. It can relieve anxiety, help control emotions, and prevent stress.
These, of course, aren't all the reasons why one should study mathematics or any other science. Science is an integral part of any person's development and life, just like friendship, family, sports, health, work, and so on.
