On the Avalanche blockchain platform, nodes are responsible for verifying transactions and preventing fraudulent data from being recorded. They perform these duties by communicating with other nodes on a peer-to-peer basis until consensus is reached on the state of a given transaction. Typically, there are well over a thousand active nodes on Avalanche, busily performing these valuable services around the clock to secure the blockchain.

It’s not difficult to run an Avalanche node; in fact, it can be easily accomplished with normal off-the-shelf hardware. And Amazon Web Services (AWS) provides a simple way to launch a node in just a few minutes. This tutorial video from Ava Labs walks you through the process of running an Avalanche node on AWS.

Here's how it works:
Go to AWS Marketplace: https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/
Search for “avalanche validator node.”
On the “Avalanche Validator Node” page, press the Configure to Subscribe button.
On the “Subscribe to this software” page, press the Continue to Configuration button.
On the “Configure this software” page, select your region from the drop-down menu and press the Continue to Launch button.
On the “Launch this software“ page, select Launch through EC2 from the Choose Action drop-down menu and press continue.
On the “Launch an instance” page, select your preferred name, tags, key pair, security rules, and storage configuration. Now press the Launch Instance button. You should get a “Success“ message indicating that you have correctly launched your instance.
From the “Network & Security” section of the left-side menu, select Elastic IP. Then press the Allocate Elastic IP Address button on the upper right.
On the “Allocate Elastic IP Address” page, press the Allocate button at the bottom.
On the “Elastic IP addresses” page, click “Associate Elastic IP address” from the Actions menu.
On the “Associate Elastic IP address” page, fill in the appropriate info and press the Associate button.
Back on the “Elastic IP addresses” page, select Instances from the left-side menu. Select your instance from the list of options and press the Connect button.
On the “Connect to Instance” page, turn on Terminal, change directory into your private key, and set permissions private.
Now you can run your node. Go to Avalanche Docs and download AvalancheGo using the Nodes Install Script code.
Once installation is complete, check the status to see if everything is running correctly, then press “q” to quit.

That’s all there is to it. You can keep your node running and obtain staking rewards.
