Benefit of separating units is so finish does not fallow rougher all the way through. ex using .0156r rougher but need inside corner less than .01r then use finishing tool with .0078r corner, separate to run just finish and then that tool with cut into that larger radius and leaves you with .0078r inside corner.
Another use is if your inside turning material starts on 2" after drilling, and opening your internal dimension to 10" , there is no need for your finishing boring bar to go down to 2" since it be cutting air, separate them and set your starting point X to 9.950, as you see there's multiple uses for doing this .
