The Minecraft Sniffer is described as an ancient creature that hatches from Sniffer eggs. To bring Sniffers into Minecraft, you must find their eggs and help them hatch. Sniffer eggs can be found in suspicious sand that contains other objects such as pottery shards (which can be found using the new archeology system). Once you have unearthed your egg, it's time to help it hatch!
Breeding sniffers with Torch Blossom seeds will also result in a Sniffer egg.
What is the purpose of the Sniffer?
The Sniffer will wander around and sniff out seeds on the ground. Plant the seeds to get new decorative plants, or collect them all in a chest. Currently, no other use for the Sniffer in Minecraft is known.
Behavior
Sniffers wander aimlessly, avoiding dangers and obstacles. They sometimes sniff their environment and track seeds by pressing their noses to the ground. When they find a seed, they drop to the ground and use their nose to dig until they find Torch Blossom seeds.
Reproduction
Players can feed sniffers with Torch Blossom seeds. By feeding them, adult sniffers can reproduce to create a snifflet. Parents have a waiting time of five minutes before they can reproduce again.
Sniffer Egg
A Sniffer egg is a block that can hatch to give birth to a snifflet (baby Sniffer).
The natural generation of Sniffer eggs is possible by unearthing them from suspicious sand using a brush in warm ocean ruins. In addition to this method, Sniffer eggs can also be obtained after their initial generation by breeding two sniffers using Torch Blossom seeds. Thus, players have the option to either find them in their natural environment or obtain them by breeding themselves.
Hatching
Sniffer eggs can be placed on a block and slowly hatch into snifflets. Placing them on a moss block will cause them to develop more quickly. Sniffer eggs do not need a supporting block below them, and unlike dragon eggs, they are not affected by gravity.
Sniffer eggs crack over time and hatch after cracking twice. They hatch more quickly when placed on moss blocks. Sniffer eggs hatch in about 10 minutes when placed above moss blocks, while it takes twice as long for them to hatch when placed on blocks other than moss blocks.
