She Inspires Students and Creates Schools of Promise -
Denise Juneau was elected Montana’s Superintendent of Public Instruction in 2008, becoming the first American Indian woman elected to statewide office in Montana, and indeed in the nation. She was re-elected in 2012. Her Schools of Promise program for improving the struggling schools on Indian reservations is bold and student-centered. It has become a national model for success. “I believe in public education; it did a great job for me. It deserves our support and encouragement.”
