What is a BLF? With Marc Spehalski | VoIP Supply
Join Senior VoIP Engineer Marc Spehalski as he goes over exactly what a BLF is, and just some of the functions it can be used for!
Hi, my name is Marc Spehalski. Senior VoIP Engineer at VoIP Supply. Today we are going to talk a little bit about BLF. BLF stands for busy lamp field. A busy lamp field is a visual indication on a phone of whether or not a user is on the line, or an indication of one of the phone system’s functions, like Call Que, Day/Night Mode, or a park zone. Lets take a look at some of these phones, and see these in action.
I have three phones with me here today. I have a Sangoma s700 and two Aastra 55i’s. You can see on the Sangoma phone, I have two BLF keys set up for extension 5001 and 5009. So, if I were able to make a call using one of the phones, you can see the BLF activate.
On the Aastra phone’s, I have additional BLF’s for a que login, day/night mode and park zone. So, I can use a button to log into the call que, and I can also use the button to also log out. I could also change from day to night mode.
And we can also check the status of a park zone. Lets test that, and put a call in park. We can now see that this call is on park one. We can now retrieve that call by pushing the button.
One other thing you and do, with a BLF assigned to an extension is what’s called direct to call pick up. If I were to call an extension, like, 5007 for example. I can see the light flashing here for 5007. I can push this button for direct to call pick up, and pick up that call.
So, that’s BLF in a nutshell. Again, BLF stands for busy lamp field, and is a visual indication of a system function, or an extension.
