The Guys Who Rent Out Rooms in Amsterdam's Red Light District
In this episode of our series on the Amsterdam Red Light District, we tag along with room rental company Agapi.
Agapi is known as the nicest window rental company in the area. It is run by Devenando and Barry, both in their twenties, who have nothing to do with pimps and other shady businesses. They get along well with the prostitutes who they rent out rooms to and on occasion they have a barbecue together or go eat pancakes on the Pancake Boat in the canals.
The Red Light District in Amsterdam is notorious for many things. In 2016 we created the series "Achter de Wallen" (Behind the Red Light District), in which we follow the people who work in this neighborhood every day, to get to know the area from their perspective. No pimps, drug dealers or junkies – but cleaners, bachelor party guides and the friendliest window rental company in Amsterdam, where sex workers sometimes come to bake apple pie for each other.
