Hyperhidrosis is defined as excessive sweating in a specific area of the body or throughout the body. Excessive sweating is more common in certain areas, such as the hands, feet, armpits, and face. This condition can negatively impact daily activities and social interactions, reduce self-confidence, and cause significant discomfort.
The most effective and permanent treatment for excessive sweating in the hands is Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy (ETS). This procedure works by cutting or clamping (blocking) the sympathetic nerves that control sweating. After the surgery, hand sweating usually stops immediately, and this effect is permanent.
ETS surgery is a procedure requiring general anesthesia and does not require a hospital stay. The procedure usually takes about an hour, and patients can usually return home the same day. The results are usually immediate, and sweating usually stops.
