Change Object Opacity with Null Object in After Effects

When working in After Effects, there will frequently be multiple objects that need to be identically animated. Multiple objects, for example, may need to move position across the screen all while fading away. Having to animate the properties on every object individually would be a very time consuming and tedious process.

Null Objects are items that exist within After Effects that can be animated but have no visual appearance of their own. Other objects can be parented to a Null Object. Any animation applied to the Position, Scale or Rotation of a Null Object will be reflected in the appearance of any child objects. However, the Opacity of the Null Object is not honoured by any objects parented to it.
3:12 - Effect on Null Object to Control Child Opacity
Within the Expression Controls section of the Effects & Presets panel is an entry for Slider Control. Dragging this entry onto the Null Object will apply this effect. This slider can be used to control the opacity of any object by connecting the opacity of that object to this slider. This slider can also be keyframed which allows for the animating of opacity. This in turn will animate the opacity of any objects parented to the Null Object.
