A CAVE EXCURSION THAT ENDED ILLEGALLY IN THAILAND
A fun trip turned into a nightmare when flash floods blocked their exit. Their coach, Ekapol, tried to swim out to see if there was a chance, but was forced back by the current. Hoping the water would subside and they found a place to spend the night, they continued deeper into the cave, following the ascending and descending paths. They came to a sandy area called Pattaya Beach. A little further on, they reached a very dry, sandy spot on a hillside. By then, they had covered almost 4 kilometers. It was dark, but they had their lights and, thanks to the cracks in the porous limestone and rocks, they had enough air for a while. At least for a while, they had the right conditions for survival. Here, they waited for the water to recede, dreaming of the day they could emerge. But there was one thing they couldn't imagine: The monsoon rains, which began weeks ago due to the changing seasons, will become increasingly intense, and perhaps this cave will become their grave.
