A Parable with Meaning | About Promises | Wise Thoughts
One cold night, a rich man met a poor old man on the street. He asked him: Aren't you cold outside without a coat?
The old man replied: I don't have one, but I'm used to it.
The man said: Wait for me, I'll go inside and bring you a coat.
The poor man was delighted and said: I'll wait for you!
The man went inside, went about his business, and forgot about the poor man.
In the morning, he remembered the old man and went looking for him, but found him already dead from the cold.
The old man left him a note:
When I didn't have warm clothes, I had the strength to fight the cold because I was used to it.
But when you promised to help me, I held on to your promise, and it took away my strength to resist.
Moral: Don't promise anything if you can't keep it.
Your promise may mean nothing to you, but it can mean everything to someone else.
