💻 How to Install macOS Mojave on an iMac from a Bootable USB Drive

Install macOS Mojave on your iMac using a bootable USB installer. This method is useful for a clean install, reinstalling macOS, troubleshooting, or installing without downloading the system again. Apple notes that a bootable installer is optional, but helpful in these situations.

🔧 What You’ll Need
A compatible iMac (supports macOS Mojave)
A USB flash drive (16 GB minimum recommended)
The full Install macOS Mojave installer in the Applications folder
A backup of important files before starting
📝 Create the Bootable USB (If Not Already Created)
Download the full macOS Mojave installer onto a Mac.
Connect and erase the USB drive.
Rename the USB drive to MyVolume.
Open Terminal and run:
sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Mojave.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/MyVolume
Enter your administrator password and wait for the installer creation process to finish.
🖥️ Install macOS Mojave on the iMac
Insert the bootable USB into the iMac.
Restart or power on the iMac.
Immediately hold Option (⌥) until Startup Manager appears.
Select Install macOS Mojave from the boot options.
Choose your language if prompted.
Open Disk Utility if performing a clean installation.
Select the internal drive and click Erase:
APFS (recommended for SSD)
Mac OS Extended (Journaled) (commonly used for older HDD setups)
Scheme: GUID Partition Map
Close Disk Utility.
Select Install macOS and follow the setup instructions.
Wait for installation to complete and finish macOS setup.
