Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka received a working visit from Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongsavan Phomvihane at the Vice Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday to discuss strengthening the partnership between the two countries.
Deputy Prime Minister Phomvihane's arrival at the Vice Presidential Palace was greeted by a guard of honor from the Presidential Security Force (Paspampres) and a Balinese Pendet dance performance from the Khatulistiwa dance studio.
Meanwhile, Vice President Gibran, who had been waiting in the Palace courtyard, approached Phomvihane as he exited his vehicle.
Gibran, dressed in a black suit, warmly greeted Phomvihane by shaking his hand and engaging in casual conversation as he entered the main room of the Vice Presidential Palace.
Upon arrival in the front room of the Palace, Vice President Gibran invited Phomvihane to sign the guest book and then pose for a photo with the media.
Afterward, the two entered the main room for a bilateral meeting with their respective delegations.
Deputy Prime Minister Phomvihane and Vice President Gibran introduced each other to the accompanying delegations.
Vice President Gibran was accompanied by deputy ministers from the Red and White Cabinet, including Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Anis Matta and Deputy Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Development Agency (BP BUMN) Aminuddin Ma'ruf.
Meanwhile, the Laotian delegation in attendance included the Ambassador of the Lao People's Democratic Republic to Indonesia, Khamfeuang Phanthaxay; Director General of the Asia-Pacific and Africa Department, Bounthanongsack Chanthalath; and Director General of the ASEAN Department, Sengdavanh Vongsay.
Indonesia and Laos will celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations in 2027. Prior to visiting the Vice President's Palace, Deputy Prime Minister Thongsavan met with Foreign Minister Sugiono on Monday (May 4).
