This video tells the life story of Blackbeard, the pirate whose name became one of the most famous in maritime history.
Believed to have been born as Edward Teach in the late 17th century, Blackbeard began his career as a sailor before turning to piracy during the Golden Age of Piracy. He became known for his towering appearance, dark beard, and frightening image, often placing slow-burning fuses beneath his hat to create clouds of smoke around his face during battle.
Blackbeard commanded the ship Queen Anne’s Revenge and operated across the Caribbean and the Atlantic coast of North America. Though feared by merchants and naval forces, using his reputation to force ships to surrender without a fight.
His life came to an end in 1718 during a battle with British naval forces off the coast of North Carolina. This gentle bedtime history follows Blackbeard as a story of fear, legend, and life on the edge of empire and law.
