The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) was formed by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in 2001. The council is based out of the CII Green Business Centre, Hyderabad which has the unique distinction of being India’s 1st Platinum-rated green building and a Net Zero Energy building. The vision of the council is to enable ‘Sustainable built environment for all.
IGBC is the country's oldest and premier body for green building certification and other services like capacity building, Accredited Professional examination, membership, etc.
· Close to 6,000 projects registered with IGBC from various parts of India and abroad, amounting to a total footprint of more than 7 billion sq. ft.
· 25 IGBC green building ratings to cover all typologies of projects - residential, commercial, industrial, healthcare, educational, campus, data centre, etc
· More than 1,600 IGBC Member Organizations comprising developers, corporates, architects, consultants, institutes, government, etc
· More than 4,000 qualified IGBC Accredited Green Building Professionals
IGBC certifies the upcoming and existing projects in the built-environment which are conceptualized, designed, constructed, operated and maintained as per IGBC Green Ratings. IGBC-rated projects, as compared to conventional buildings, have demonstrated tremendous savings to the extent of:
· Up to 15,000 MWh of Energy per million sq ft per annum.
· Up to 45,000 KL of Water per million sq ft per annum.
· Installation of 700 MW of Renewable Energy
· Reduced CO2 emissions by up to 12,000 Tons per million sq ft per annum.
· Diverted 500 Tons of construction waste from landfill annually
Green building projects rated by IGBC fall under one of the following levels (in ascending order): Certified, Silver, Gold and Platinum.
