How to draw curved line in GIMP
Hey guys, welcome back to NGB 2.0 and in this video, I want to show you how you can draw a curved line in GIMP. Now it's actually super easy to draw a curved line in GIMP. So without further delay, let's get started and see how you can do this. Now to demonstrate this first, I would like to create a new image with a white background. So to do that, go to 'File' and then click on 'New'. Let the width and height of the new image be 1920 and 1080.
So inside 'Width', let me write 1920 and inside 'Height', let me write 1080. Now click on 'Advanced Options' and inside 'Fill with', you need to select 'White' and now click on 'OK'. Next, what we are going to do is we will add horizontal and vertical guides, which will help us in drawing our curved line. So to do that,
go to 'Image', go to 'Guides' and click on 'New Guide'. Inside 'Direction', 'Horizontal' is selected, so that's fine. So we will add three horizontal guides at 20%, 50% and 80%. So inside 'Position', currently the value is 10. So change it to 20 and now click on 'OK'. Now once again, go to 'Guides' and inside 'Position', currently 20 is there,
so change this to 50 and now click on 'OK'. And once again, go to 'Guides', inside 'Position', currently 50 is there, so change this to 80 and now click on 'OK'. Perfect. Let's go to 'Guides' once again and this time change the direction from 'Horizontal' to 'Vertical' and let's first add a vertical guide at 10%. So let me just write 10 inside 'Position' and now click on 'OK'.
Now keep adding vertical guides in addition of 20%. So currently the value is 10, 10 plus 20 is 30. So let me just write 30 inside 'Position' and now click on 'OK'. 30 plus 20 is 50, so let me write 50 inside 'Position' and now click on 'OK'. 50 plus 20 is 70, so let me write 70 inside 'Position' and now click on 'OK'.
70 plus 20 is 90, so let me write 90 inside 'Position' and now click on 'OK'. Perfect. So as you can see, we have created this sort of grid and this is going to help us in drawing our curved line. So next what you need to do is you need to select the Paths tool from the toolbox and create a straight line using the Paths tool. So as you can see, I've placed these five points and as you can see I've placed them in a line. And now click on the first point, press CTRL on the keyboard and drag this point below like this. Now click on the first point once again, press CTRL on the keyboard and drag this point right at the top like this. Now simply repeat the process 4 more times.
And what you need to do next is you need to add a transparent layer on top of your main background layer. So to do that, click on this option which says 'Create a new layer and add it to the image'. And the moment you click on this option, you will see this 'New layer' dialog open up right here. Let the 'Layer name' be 'Layer' and inside 'Fill with' 'Transparency' is selected so that's fine.
And now click on 'OK'. Now you need to go to the 'Paths' tab and okay, before you go to the 'Paths' tab, first make sure that the transparent layer which you just created is selected. And now go to the 'Paths' tab. And now, as you can see, this is our path right here. It is currently 'Unnamed'. So you need to click on this particular option which says 'Paint along the path'. Now the moment you click on this option, you will see this 'Stroke Path' dialog open up right here.
'Stroke line' is already selected and 'Solid color' is already selected. So that's fine. 'Line width' is set to 15 pixels. So that's fine as well. So now simply click on this 'Stroke' button which is present right here. And immediately you will see your curved line very clearly. And one final thing which you need to do is click on the move tool to get rid of the points which you had created. And now go to 'Image',
go to 'Guides' and select this option that is 'Remove all Guides'. And that's it. This is how you can draw a curved line in GIMP. Do let me know your thoughts in the comment section below.
