1. SALTO - Berkeley's leaping robot
Roboticists at UC Berkeley have designed a small robot that can leap into the air and then spring off a wall, or perform multiple vertical
jumps in a row, resulting in the highest robotic vertical jumping agility ever recorded. The agility of the robot opens new pathways of
locomotion that were not previously attainable. The researchers hope that one day this robot and other vertically agile robots can be used
to jump around rubble in search and rescue missions.
Duncan Haldane, a robotics Ph.D. candidate at UC Berkeley, led the work. Haldane is a student in the Biomimetic Millisystems Lab of Ronald
Fearing, a professor of electrical engineering and computer sciences.

2. Bat Bot (B2)
Using a custom-made silicon skin and articulated morphing wings, Soon-Jo Chung and researchers from UIUC created Bat Bot (B2),
an autonomous flying robot that mimics the flight characteristics of real bats.

3. Compliant Modular Mesh Worm Robot
This project by the Biologically Inspired Robotics Laboratory at Case Western Reserve University seeks to develop a novel means of robotic
locomotion useful in niche applications such as pipe inspection.
Earthworms travel by contracting their body segments sequentially. This method of locomotion is particularly effective in constrained
spaces. Soft worm robots may eventually have application in pipe inspection, burrowing, or exploration. Understanding the physics and
control of this motion is a problem we are addressing with mechanical models, mathematics and computer simulation.
