Real-time and low latency media transport stack based on DPDK - Ping Yu & Frank Du, Intel

Ping and Frank will introduce an open-source project “Intel media transport library” which is based on DPDK for live media streaming transport in broadcast production industry. The industry is undergoing a transformation from SDI to IP media transport. Specialized equipment and FPGA implementations for IP based raw video transport are currently dominant due to strict low latency and reliability requirements. Instead, “Intel media transport library” leverages DPDK capability to provide end-to-end media transport capability compatible with the SMPTE ST 2110 standard. Ping and Frank will introduce how to enable a real-time media transport based on DPDK features, such that Chain buffer and zero copy in the TX mode, rate limiting to control packet pacing and dmadev for DMA acceleration and they also enhance NIC header split API to for raw video GPU direct access. They designed a full asynchronized model to best utilize hardware resource, and present current performance benchmark based on the media stack. At the end of the presentation, they will introduce how to enable the transport library-based Windows DPDK enabling and address several issues specific to DPDK Windows release.
