Else is the inner reality of a young woman, who is put into the position to solve her father’s financial disaster. Trying to decide whether to follow the indiscreet demand of her possible sponsor or let her dad go to jail, Else fights an inner war between her self-esteem and sense of duty. Torn between curiosity and tradition, shame and duty, Else has only her mirror image to talk to and finally takes a radical decision to escape her drastic situation.

Miriam and Sarah Kerneza based “ELSE” on the novel “Fräulein Else”, written 1903 by the Austrian author Arthur Schnitzler and transformed it into a modern theatre play. The actresses lead the audience deep into the story due to the simplicity of means – Else’s entire world is created just by two chairs and two small tables – and pure and strong emotions expressed though dance.
