VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
Discover how a family of four transitioned from a 1,300 sq. ft. home to a custom-built 40ft tiny house on 5 acres in Washington. Mark and Daisy, founders of Ocean Designs, share their vertical space design secrets, tiny house floor plan with two lofts, and the financial freedom that comes with downsizing.

Tiny House Living for Families
Living tiny doesn't mean sacrificing comfort. This gooseneck tiny home is 10ft wide and 40ft long, featuring a 14ft ceiling that creates an airy, spacious environment. Designed specifically for a family with two teenagers, the layout includes:

Main Floor Master Bedroom: A private sanctuary for parents with full-size wardrobes and stargazing windows.

Dual Teen Lofts: Separate 8x10 ft spaces for Merritt and Morgan, customized for their height and storage needs.

Full Kitchen: Optimized for scratch cooking with induction cooktops, butcher block shelving, and ample counter space.

Modern Amenities: A full-size bathroom with a 48-inch shower, flush toilet, and dedicated laundry area.

Off-Grid Ready and Energy Efficient
Sustainability was a core goal for this build. The home is 100% electric, making it perfect for future solar integration.

Power Backup Solutions: Being in a windy valley means frequent power outages. This video features the Jackery Essential Home Backup System. With the Jackery Explorer 3600, the family can keep their refrigerator running for up to 14 days, power Starlink internet, and maintain lights during emergencies. This compact unit fits perfectly in a tiny house coat closet and offers zero-drain storage.

Climate Control: With a high-efficiency mini-split and a Dwarf wood stove, the home stays comfortable during cold Washington winters and hot summer days. The metal siding and cedar accents provide a low-maintenance, durable exterior.

Financial Freedom and Tiny House Design
Building this home allowed the family to trade a $2,400 mortgage for a $700 land loan. This shift provided the financial security to start Oshn's Designs (now merged with Big Freedom Tiny Homes).

If you are interested in tiny house construction, finding land for a tiny home, or sustainable architecture, this tour provides a realistic look at the costs and benefits.
