In 1772, the great Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler discovered a truly remarkable formula that "almost" generates only primes, namely the quadratic formula n^2 - n + 41, which is prime for every integer n from 1 to 40 and for a surprisingly large number of larger values of n as well.
