How to Create Mockups in Canva: Create Free Book Mockups, and Other Mockup Types
In this video guide, you will learn how to create mockups in Canva. As a writer, I create mockups for my book covers. I use them as marketing tools to appeal to my potential buyers. With this design style, it gives your book cover a special kind of look.
As a publisher on Amazon KDP, the platform has a marketing pattern called A+ content. This allows you to summarize the content of your book in simple stunning graphic designs. You highlight some important key areas of your book in a graphic design. In addition to that, you can add a mockup of your book cover along side the graphic design. You can use Canva to create the mockup feature and then import into the design before uploading on Amazon. When you create the book mockup, it represents how the book will look like with the leaves contained in it.
Mockups are visual drafts of something. You can have mockups on clothes, cups, mugs, containers, computers and other technology devices. You can have it placed on a device screen, example iPad.
To create a mockup in Canva, visit https://www.canva.com/ and log in with your details. If you do not have existing account with the program, just signup.
After you are signed in, click Apps followed by Smartmockups. The Apps is one of the major menu items at the left margin of the program interface. You will be provided with some categories of mockup designs to choose from. Select one of the categories to access the templates in the section. You can go for the free ones if you are not a pro subscriber of the program.
After selecting a free template, import the design you want to use for the mockup. You do that by clicking the Select button. This will open the uploads tab of your Canva displaying all the photos you have in the cloud. You can choose any of them. If the photo you want to apply is saved in your computer, click the Upload button, navigate to where the photo is saved in your PC and double-click on it to be imported in the program. Select the image by clicking on it once followed by the Select button to be placed as mockup picture.
Once you are satisfied with the result, save the mockup by clicking Save Mockup button followed by Download button.
You can also create book mockup by following the same steps. Just use the book cover design to create that.
