Hey Guys! In this tutorial I am going to solve any problems you might have about the ray traced 3d renderer. Most of you probably want your ray traced 3d renderer to work faster as it lags a lot. Here are some ways for you to fix this:

1) Utilize you Graphics card: This is probably the most important step to take. To utilize your graphics card go into edit-preferences-previews. Then select GPU information. From there you should see a box that has a drop down menu. In that dropdown menu you have a choice to use your CPU or GPU. Choose GPU. If the GPU option is unavailable, it means you have a graphics card that is not supported. For a list of supported graphics cards check out the after effects system requirements page: https://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects.... Not all graphics card are listed but any NVidia graphics cards with a Kepler architecture should work. If it has Maxwell architecture, you are out of luck.

Once you configured After Effects to use you GPU instead of CPU, go to the bottom of the video preview window and look for the little lightning bolt. If you click that, there should be a pop up menu with adaptive resolution selected. Change it to fast draft. This is the option that utilized your graphics card.

2) Memory: make sure you give after effects the most Ram possible. To do this go into edit-preferences-memory/multiprocessing. In the memory section it shows you how much ram you have, how much ram is reserved for other applications, and how much ram will be used for after effects. If you do not plan on using any other applications at the same time as after effects, then turn the ram reserved for other applications to the lowest setting.

3) Multiprocessing: In the same window as memory (edit-preferences memory/multiprocessing), go down to the multiprocessing settings. Make sure render multiple frames simultaneously is checked. Then go down to CPU’s reserved for other applications and adjust that to your liking. The less CPU’s for other applications, the more you get for after effects and the faster and smoother it will run. Next you want to adjust your Ram allocation per background CPU to the highest amount that doesn’t affect the actual CPU’s that will be used for After Effects.

4) Ray Traced Settings: Go to your composition settings and click the advanced tab. Then select the options for Ray Raced 3D. You will be able to adjust the quality. The lower that is, then the smoother and faster the effect will play.

Hope you guys found these tips helpful!
