In the "Cordon" location at the beginning of the game, after you cross the bridge past the soldiers, you need to talk to the doctor at the stalker camp. He'll give you a bottle to drink, and you're good to go. While you're going to get the doctor or just wandering around, the soldiers from the outpost can reach the stalker camp (near Sidrych) and kill everyone, especially you. I didn't see it exactly, but it seems like two more helicopters are looming and shooting at you in this mess; apparently, more soldiers are coming out of them and hitting everyone. Saves made during the attack on the stalkers won't work at that moment after you die, but they will work after you restart the game. Yes, it will crash and you'll have to load it again. It's still worth the effort to eliminate the soldiers who spotted you from afar and came to kill you, because... They'll drop good armor (shoot them in the head), rare guns that will never appear again, and most importantly, after the "Cave" location, you'll have a lot of useful items.
