How to Pivot Data in the Data Source - Tableau in Two Minutes
In this tutorial, we show you how to use Tableau's pivot function to take columns and convert them into rows. Tableau often prefers data to be arranged row-wise, instead of column-wise, and the pivot function allows you to create two new columns 0 one with the column name, the other with the value in that column.
One thing to watch out for is the conversion of columns that you aren't pivoting - if you have a total column, or (as we have) a rank column, these will be duplicated for each row of the data source. To prevent issues, we remove them at the end of the tutorial.
