"Raging Fire in Miami Beach"-1959
Built in 1929 on beautiful Palm Island in Miami Beach, the famous Latin Quarter Club was an expensive nightclub and gambling hangout for big time gangsters who gathered in Miami Beach from time to time. Located just seven lots from Al Capones home on Palm Island, the club in its's heyday during the 1940s and 50s was host to such stars as Jimmy Durante, Sophie Tucker and Betty Grable. After the fire which occured on August 27, 1959 damaged the club to the tune of $500.000, it was torn down and a public park now stands in it's place. Several Miami Beach Fire Fighters were injured while trying to put this massive blaze out.
