A bridge of remembrance: Pont de l'Alma
The Eiffel Tower, completed in 1889 for the Paris World’s Fair, was designed by Gustave Eiffel. Initially criticized, it became a symbol of modern engineering and French innovation. Standing 1,083 feet tall, it attracts millions of visitors annually and remains one of the world’s most iconic landmarks.
Louvre Pyramid plaza (Cour Napoléon).
The Louis XIV Equestrian Statue, located in the Louvre’s Cour Napoléon, depicts the “Sun King” on horseback, symbolizing royal power and authority. Created by François Joseph Bosio in the early 19th century, the neoclassical sculpture celebrates Louis XIV’s reign and influence on French art, culture, and politics.
The Arc de Triomphe, commissioned by Napoleon in 1806 after his victory at Austerlitz, honors French soldiers who fought in the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. Designed by Jean Chalgrin, it was completed in 1836. Standing 164 feet tall, it features sculpted reliefs, engraved names of generals, and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
