Why the Union Lost the Battle of Chickamauga 💥😯💥😯
The Chickamauga Battlefield is a historic site located in Ft. Oglethorpe, Georgia, USA. It is the location of one of the bloodiest battles of the American Civil War, fought on September 18-20, 1863. The battle, fought between the Union and Confederate armies, resulted in a Confederate victory and significant casualties on both sides.
Here in this battle map video, the Union and Confederate forces were locked in combat. The Confederate forces made some mistakes, missing a few opportunities. Then, interestingly enough, General Rosecrans gets word that there is a gap in the Union line that needs to be filled. The Union forces in that part of the line receded to fill the gap. Coincidentally, Confederate Corps General Longstreet coordinated an attack in the very spot where the Union forces were leaving. The reality was that there was not a gap and Logstreets Corps broke through the lines, dismantling the Union forces. Many retreated from the battlefield and went back to Chattanooga. General Thomas set up a line on Snodgrass Hill to help the rest of the Union retreat. He would thereafter be known as the “Rock of Chickamauga”. The rebel forces won this battle mainly due to General Rosecrans slip up.
