Injection for the treatment of trochanteric bursitis is a common procedure.
Trochanteric bursisits is inflammation of the bursa at the outside area of the hip on top of the greater trochanter. Irritiation and inflammation of the bursa casuese pain in the hip.
The procedure can be done in the supine or lateral position and the patient identifies the area of maximum pain and tenderness.
Obtain a consent
Mark the site for injection
Do a time out
Injection site is prepped with betadine.
The trochanteric bursa lies on top of the bone. Advance the needle until it hits the bone.
Aspirate and then inject the bursa.
