Welcome back! Android was always supposed to be the alternative to a locked-down phone, as you bought the device, so you chose what software could run on it. But Google is now building a verification system that reaches beyond the Google Play Store. Starting September 30, 2026, developers distributing apps on certified Android devices will face new identity and app-registration requirements, even when their software comes from independent websites or alternative app stores. ‼️‼️Indeed though, there is ALREADY resistance.
