Modern sampling libraries are built around transitions, not just attacks. The difference between blurry, undifferentiated MIDI playback and something that sounds like a live performer comes down to one thing: how each note ends and hands off to the next. This session breaks that down practically with audible A/B comparisons.
Technique 1 — Note length editing: shortening 8th notes to 16ths (or dotted 8ths) forces the sample library to create natural detachment without touching legato settings at all. A low-complexity tool that works across any library.
Technique 2 — Fingered legato via slur: the slur marking in Dorico triggers legato transitions in SINE Player, but every note under the slur gets the same transition — including the last one. That final note needs its own reset.
Technique 3 — Rest-based reset and custom playing technique: inserting a short 16th or 32nd rest before the next phrase forces a fresh attack.
