Practical Beginner Tips for Using Rulers

I use Clip Studio Paint as a freelance animator working in Japanese animation. Clip has many useful rulers; in this video, I will show you the ones I mostly use for anime work.

Symmetrical Ruler, Perspective Ruler, and Figure Ruler (ellipse) and Special Ruler (Concentric Circle) to draw circles in perspective!

I have to mention that I have some knowledge of perspective, but it is mostly the basic theory; I was a character animator, so I didn’t have much practice drawing backgrounds. In fact, it wasn't until I started working in anime that I had to draw more backgrounds than I ever anticipated; the rulers in clip studio make perspective so digestible. So, if you only have the basic theory, that is more than enough to start; together with the rulers’ help, you’re good to go.

For now, these are the rulers I use all the time or very frequently as an animator in an anime.

I hope this video was useful to you! Let me know in the comments if you use a ruler I didn’t mention. Thank you for watching, and happy animating.
