ReaX18: The X-Men Get Serious
This week we got SUFFERING! PROFILING! WELL-INTENTIONED ALLUSIONS TO SERIOUS TOPICS THAT MAY OR MAY NOT HIT! It's everything I've ever wanted.
These two episodes prove you really never can go home again. The status-quo might be back to normal, but the world isn't. The characters are forced to deal with their minority status for the first real time in the show's run and - in my opinion - it works great. Nothing makes you miss the highschool antics of old like realizing we can never go back.
This hit everything I love about the mutant metaphor (while avoiding most of what I don't) and managed to blend it with the style and charm the show has perfected across the earlier seasons. Oh, also there was Gambit. In a new design. Literally can't ask for more.
