In this video i show the difference between a time lapse video and a nigh tlapse video which right now is my favourite because it gives a much cleaner video. Previously the results you got with time lapse video with you gopro were very grainy as there simply wasnt enough light for the camera in low light conditions.
In this tutorial I also share my best settings for timelapse with GoPro so I overview intervals, mode, whether to use Timelapse vs nightlapse etc
If you are not sure which time lapse interval to choose then I also show a small comparison just to give you an idea what you can expect. I compare 2s,5s and 10 sec interval and record a sunset for an hour. My personal favourite is always 5 sec or 4 sec interval as its a sweet spot, not too fast or too slow. That should be ideal setting for recording sunsets or sunrises with your gopro.
Ohh i almost forgot, obviously you gonna need some decent tripod to be able to record a steady timelapse. In theory any tripod will do, but in practice you just need to make sure its gonna be stable, once you record it dont touch the camera untill its done, so no swapping batteries or touching the screen ok ? :) believe me ive seen it people doing it. Actually i also recommend to use voice commands so you dont touch the camera when starting and stopping video.
Look for a day when there is a slight overcast, cloudy day as that gonna work its magic. Sunsets with clear empty sky with just a sun on the horizon are simply extremely boring as there is nothing going on except the sun going below the horizon but if you include clouds you can have a dramatic effect, and fast moving clouds.
A lot of people finish their sunset recordings as soon as the sun goes below the horizon which is a huge mistake. After a golden hour we enter into a blue hour which can produce sometimes better effect and light than we could expect, but again you gonna need to record in nightlapse settings for that.
In case you are in a new location, i included a really interesting app for your phone that you can download for free called "sun path", thanks to the app you can estimate where to expect a sunrise or a sunset and plan your camera angle accordingly.
OK ! thanks for reading this perhaps i skipped sth or perhaps not :)
I really recommend you to learn taking timelapses as its a really lovely experience and can bring your videos to the next level if done properly.
Now if you follow my tips I am pretty sure thats gonna be everything you need to get the basics and now you should know how to timelapse with gopro :)
