The first public Android build: What was it like?

Apologies for the lackluster title... Released in 2007 as then the first thing the public saw of Android, Android M3-RC20a is quite lackluster. Earlier builds have since been discovered, despite only one leaking, and so this is the second earliest available build, despite being the first one shown off to the public.

Founded in 2003, Android was originally developed by an independent team of developers before being acquired by Google in circa 2005. The earliest signs of an actual system came in the autumn of 2006, with the internal September 2006 build revealed by legal documents pertaining to an Oracle-Google lawsuit. Screenshots of this build were published in an article by The Verge, and it looks quite different even compared to M3-RC20a. Throughout its development, Android 1.0 saw multiple different build numbering systems, multiple themes, and publicly released SDKs. The OS was built on top of a modified Linux kernel and tested on HTC prototypes dubbed the Google Sooner.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy this video. This was supposed to be an interim piece that grew out of control, and so I opted to push it out now, which is better than never.

Well, with a video of this length, the timestamps might be lackluster as well:

0:26 - Background
2:46 - The UI
3:50 - Applications
6:00 - Conclusion
