Nano is a lightweight terminal text editor that can be used to create and edit files directly from the command line.

📌 REQUIREMENTS
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
• Windows 10 or Windows 11
• PowerShell 7 recommended
• Scoop package manager
PowerShell 5.1 can run Nano, but Scoop installation may encounter ZIP extraction compatibility issues with some newer packages. PowerShell 7 is recommended.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
1️⃣ CHECK POWERSHELL VERSION
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Run:
$PSVersionTable.PSVersion
If the Major version is 7 or higher, you already have PowerShell 7 and can skip the PowerShell installation step.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
2️⃣ INSTALL POWERSHELL 7
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
If you are still using PowerShell 5.1, run:
winget install --id Microsoft.PowerShell --source winget
After installation:
1. Close PowerShell.
2. Open PowerShell again.
3. Run:
pwsh
Then verify:
$PSVersionTable.PSVersion
PowerShell 5.1 and PowerShell 7 can exist on the same computer. You do not need to uninstall PowerShell 5.1.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
3️⃣ INSTALL SCOOP
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Set the execution policy for your current user:
Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned -Scope CurrentUser
When prompted, choose:
Y
Then install Scoop:
irm get.scoop.sh | iex
If Scoop is already installed, check it with:
scoop --version
If a version is displayed, you can skip the Scoop installation.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
4️⃣ INSTALL GNU NANO
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Run:
scoop install nano
Scoop will download and install Nano and make the "nano" command available in your terminal.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
5️⃣ VERIFY THE INSTALLATION
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Run:
nano --version
If Nano was installed successfully, its version information will be displayed.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
6️⃣ USE NANO
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Create or edit a file:
nano file.txt
Examples:
nano config.js
nano .env
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
