[2.11] Skittle - elsehurdle159
For this level, it was requested to me via GD messages. Usually I expect to get some level straight out of the recent tab. But to my surprise, this one was a really good one that I could use for a review! This creator also has no creator points as with most of my review uploads. Hope I can help elsehurdle get a feature on this level! :D
Gameplay: Bottom line on gameplay is there's not much to cover. It's enjoyable for its difficulty, and can be sightread well, so I have no complaints there. However I wish the sync was worked on a bit more. In addition the mini ball part at 0:24 was slightly inconsistent at times. There isn't much space between spikes in some areas, so I might balance out this area a bit more. Other than that, I have no other critiques, so moving on with the design.
Design: I've always been somewhat partial to levels with rainbow and grayscale color schemes. But this level has a mixture of desaturated and saturated rainbow colors, and executes it very well. I also love the pulses on the rainbow objects, it reminds me of SpooFy's levels, but its executed in its own way. I also like the simplistic backgrounds and effects, such as the rainbow pillars in the mini UFO, as well as the focus on the atmosphere. Nicely done there! :) Although I felt the block designs were very lacking throughout the level. Most of them were just base blocks. I'd consider adding some shapes or other small details to make the blocks also stand out. This did however improve at 0:49 with the slow wave part. If the rest of the level could keep that block design quality, I would say its epic worthy. Also the last part appears very rushed., its just outlines with some shading and some rainbow lines. I'd add some minor details here as well.
All-around I'd say this is very well done for a potential first feature. It pulls off a rainbow and grayscale color scheme very well, and has nice background, and smaller details that add to the atmosphere! Nice job elsehurdle :)
If I were mod, I'd send this for a 3* Feature :)
