Why I stopped doing Barbell Rows (for now)
The Barbell Row is one of the best overall back exercises. But it does involve a good amount of spinal loading. Because I now also started squatting 2x per week and performing 2 deadlift variations, I need to manage lower back fatigue in my workouts. To keep my lower back fresh for my leg training, on Upper Body Days, I focus mostly on Cable and Chest-Supported Rows.
I share this with you to show that even if an exercise is great on paper, it may not fit your training plan based on your current goals. For now, improving my squat is a focus point, so I need to consider that in the rest of my workouts, to avoid overstressing the spinal erectors.
Once I go back to Squatting 1x per week and doing the Leg Press on my 2nd Lower Body Day, I will incorporate the Barbell Rows again.
