Dr. Kormeili MD of Santa Monica Dermatology Group Los Angeles, CA,
Dr. Kormeili: Hi, this is Dr. Kormeili. We're gonna be talking about the broken blood vessels, and that reddish, aged look that happens on our necks and chest as we get older. It makes us look like we're flushed all the time or that the skin looks really old. Some different factors result in that flushed appearance and those extra broken blood vessels that we see. Hormones can do it, excessive sun can do it, and some people have just a genetic predisposition to getting those.
There's a very effective and easy treatment for it called the VBeam laser. And what we do, is we put this laser, and we shine that intense light onto the areas. All the broken blood vessels absorb that extra amount of energy, and over time your body will reabsorb them. Sometimes the result is pretty instantaneous if the blood vessel is actually a little bigger. But a lot of times it takes a couple of weeks. Most people need, obviously, more than one treatment. We recommend about three to four. But after each treatment, you can see an improvement in the appearance of the blood vessels. It's very, very important that you do not get any sun before or after the treatment for at least a week before and after to minimize any chance of discoloration that can come with any laser treatment.
The laser's actually pretty safe. We're gonna put on goggles to protect our eyes, we're gonna shine the light, put on sunscreen afterwards, and we're ready to go. There can be some bruising, a little bit of redness, that shows up as result of the laser treatment. But otherwise, there's no cuts to the skin and the skin heals pretty easily. So there's a sound, obviously, that comes with the laser, a light, but it's otherwise pretty safe, pretty painless. And the same settings that work on the neck can also produce great results on the chest too. And just like that. In a little bit, the skin can get a little red and swollen. We still don't have any bruising. And we just allow it to heal and in the next few weeks, we can do the second treatment to be able to produce even more of a result for her.
So this is immediately after the laser treatment and the areas actually look a little redder and a little more swollen. You can see the demarcation from where the laser treatment was not performed. So this means the treatment is actually working and we're in the recovery phase as the little vessels get absorbed by the body. And it was just that easy. We were able to treat the neck and the chest pretty painlessly. And she seems very comfortable. Are you doing okay?
Woman: Yeah, I'm doing fine.
Dr. Kormeili: And that was that. So very easy. Thank you for watching.
